Their 3,800 sq. ft., five room gallery has been in business for 57 years and holds an annual juried art show and sale from June 19th to Aug. 8th. The show consists of paintings, pottery, ceramics, photographs, sculpture, fabrics, jewelry, weavings, woodcrafts, bin art, cards and gifts. Visitors enter through the Jail (museum) built in 1861 and access the gallery by elevator, or stairs to the upper level. There are many interesting stories about the jail, courthouse, sheriff, judge and prisoners, not to mention the numerous ghost stories flying around. In 1868 during a Republican Convention the 2nd floor Court Room collapsed depositing all 200 men into the recorder’s office below. None of them were hurt and the floor was rebuilt to support far more than it can possibly hold, but the craftsmanship left much to be desired, as you’ll see when you walk on the very unleveled floors. The Arts Association auction and opening reception will be held on June 19th, and will open to the public on June 20th.
