MAIN STREET STREETSCAPE PROJECT

The City of Central is proud to announce that after many years of planning, the Main Street Streetscape project is finally coming to fruition. Over the course of the next few months the City’s Main Street will be completely redone. The new Main Street will feature brick pavers and stamped concrete as well as greatly improving the safety of the sidewalks on the street. For more detailed information on this exciting project please feel free to call City Hall at 303-582-5251. Please be patient as this project will be impacting the use of Main Street for driving, parking and pedestrians to some degree throughout the project. Notice is hereby given that letters of intent will be accepted until August 17, 2010 at the Central City Clerk’s Office, 141 Nevada Street, Box 249, Central City, CO 80427, for appointment as Alderman for the vacant seat up for election on November 2^nd and the remainder of that term to January 2011.

Appointment will be made at the special meeting of the City Council, to be held Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at 6:00 p.m., City Hall, 141 Nevada Street. All letters of intent must be in the City Clerk’s Office no later than Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Holiday Lighting Reminder

CITY MANAGER’S UPDATE

2009 has been an exciting and challenging year for Central City. July saw the implementation of new gaming enhancements in many of our City’s casinos and the City hopes the enhancements will increase business in the coming months. Major water line breaks plagued the City a number of times throughout the year, and you, the City voters, rejected two ballot measures in November that would have changed publication requirements for official City notices and imposed a 5% Excise Tax on admissions. 2010 Budget Adopted

The City Council adopted the City’s 2010 Budget on December 1, 2010. The Mayor, Council and Staff worked extremely hard to ensure that the 2010 Budget continues to provide all services at a high standard. Visitors Center Gets a New Home

The City recently closed on the purchase of 103 Eureka Street (the Wells Fargo Building) and is excited to announce that it will be the new home of the Visitors Center! In order to facilitate the move, the Visitors Center will be closed during the month of December. We will be re-opening on Saturday, January 2, 2010 and hope you stop by to see the new building.

The City will be purchasing 103 Eureka Street for a purchase price of $175,000. Closing on the property is scheduled for November 25^th and the City will take possession of the property the same day. The City Council has chosen to purchase this beautiful historic building to be used as the permanent home of the Central City/Black Hawk Visitors Center. Funding for this purchase comes from the City’s Historic Preservation Fund. Council and Staff plan to relocate the Visitors Center during the month of December. Please stop by after the New Year to see the space!

Along with updates to the front page and a better navigation system comes additions to “social network” sites like Twitter. You can follow our Twitter feed by clicking here @centralcityco.

The City is using Twitter so our citizens and visitors can receive important city information directly to their desktop computers and mobile devices.
